One of my new year’s resolutions was to add yoga to my daily routine. The decision for this was made to help me gain control over my thoughts. I could never have imagined how quickly I would see results. In addition, I was surprised by all of the extra benefits I hadn’t considered. I’m thankful I added yoga to my daily routine. The rewards have been amazing!
Benefits I Have Experienced
I am calmer and more relaxed.
One of the first things that I noticed after adding yoga to my daily routine was how much calmer and relaxed I felt. At first, I experienced the feeling immediately following a yoga session. However, it didn’t take long for the feeling to become a constant. I began to notice that I wasn’t becoming irritated at things that would have bothered me in the past. Overall, I was much more patient and understanding. Recently, I went to my yearly doctor’s appointment and my doctor commented on how low my blood pressure was and attributed it to practicing yoga.
My body is more defined and healthier.
Before I added yoga to my daily routine, I felt comfortable in my body but I was lacking the strength and toned muscles that I once had. At 34-years-old and the mom of three young children, I think I developed the mindset that what I had was as good as it was going to get. Within a few months of practicing yoga, I was pleasantly surprised to see my arms, legs, and abs becoming more defined again. In addition, I lost a few pounds, increased my flexibility, and I gained some confidence that I didn’t even know I was missing.
I choose to be happy.
Before yoga, my thoughts could control me and dictate my moods. Now, I have more control over my thoughts. I don’t deny myself sad or angry feelings but I don’t dwell in negative thoughts. I am now able to redirect my thoughts and keep my mood positive. As a result, I have also noticed a major improvement in my quality of sleep.
Adding yoga to my daily routine was a game-changer for me. It will be something that I will keep in my life indefinitely.

Tips To Successfully Add Yoga To Your Routine
Wow. That’s fantastic, Suzanne! I can see how a daily yoga practice could help you with all those things. I do a little bit of yoga but I’ve never seriously practised it. I do find I get similar benefits from my daily workouts. I got a little lazy during my recent staycation and really noticed a difference, even though I was doing lots of walking and keeping my step count up. I think any form of regular physical activity is good to clear and focus the mind.
Yes, I completely agree. It is about moving and stretching your body. Finding the activity that you enjoy most is key!
I agree! I do yoga, Qigong, and Pilates movements, even a few minutes each day count. Here’s to making it count! Bravo!
(I made up my own routine and practice every morning. I call it my Gratitude F-L-O-W.) ❤️🦋🌀〰️
I love that you named your routine! I use the same opening and closing poses, but I change up the middle depending on new poses I have learned in class.
Beautiful. Same here. Change it up to challenge our minds. ❤️🦋🌀〰️
I love this! I love the feeling right after I get done practicing, sprawling out on the mat for my final resting pose my body is spent and satisfied, but my mind is relaxed and calm.
That description is perfect!
A lovely tribute to a practice that brings us so much fitness, peace, & joy, Suzanne. Great job! 🌞
Finding yoga saved me from slipping into depression over a difficult family matter. Every day I am grateful I decided to start.
You make a good case for yoga.
I love it! 😁
To train the mind, first train the body! I find that I am more easily motivated after spending time on my mat, and doing so eliminated my need of an afternoon stress nap! My dog also enjoys time on the mat with me!
It motivates me as well! Thanks for sharing. I love that your yoga time includes your dog.😁 So sweet!
